Virtual Reality Proof Of Concept For The Hon. Zane Lightbourne.

The sponsorship of the Proof-of-Concept (POC) of Virtual Reality (VR) for middle & high school education will focus on simulating learning and literacy among students. Bahamian students at all learning levels within the community will have access to the POC environment to represent a sample of the educational community. This study starts with a workshop on the VR simulation-based Bahamian Government (BG) online experience on the VictoryXR platform and the In The Footsteps of History's Greatest Explorers (ITFHGE) learning tour engine. To begin the POC, the student's knowledge is tested by pre- and post-assessments of the VR exposures. The developed BG course experience will successfully connect to the hybrid BG online course on the Bahamas Virtual School (BVS) platform. The hypothesis is that students with the virtual and digital experience would show a better knowledge of Bahamian History and Government and increased literacy through built-in performance-enhancing activities in the digital course. The POC would seek, through controlled management, to positively influence the attitude towards using VR as a supplement to the current educational tools in the education system. The VR would be a practical pedagogical approach to prepare the students for a collaborative environment, improve technical skills, and strengthen low literacy skills while fostering other vital skills. Areas of Need: • Need #1: Provide an option for student learning outside traditional learning methods. • Need #2: Provide support options for students to work on increased literacy outside the typical classroom environment.
